Florida 2012: Daytime in Daytona

Normally Daytona Beach is a playground for college kids on spring break or Nascar fans in town for the Daytona 500 race every February. But it has its share of family fun as well, as we discovered when we spent a day there this year. The Daytona Lagoon was a great place to spend a scorching hot day in the sun, as it has all manner of slides, fountains and play areas where you can stay cool and have fun at the same time. Isabelle especially liked the huge waterslide, heading down time and time again with cousin Olan, while Oliver preferred to walk around in the wading pool or chill with Mommy in the Lazy River, a slow moving waterway that made its way through the whole park. It was a great way to start our day in Daytona. Spent from a day in the sun, we walked across the street to the Ocean Centre, where we sneaked in to see the NCAA National Cheerleading Championships, an energy-filled event that saw some amazing acrobatics and flying cheerleaders everywhere. It was awesome to see something like this in person, a part of American culture that we admittedly know little about. Finally a stop at the Volusia Mall on our way out for a ride on their famous choo-choo train. Capped the day off nicely and we headed home, exhausted from the heat and from all that we saw and did. Tomorrow will be a new day and new adventures, who knows what trouble we will get into?

Waiting their turn on the huge slide

Yeeha!  That was fun!

Officially had enough of all the festivities
