The long weekend is over and it's a day for new beginnings. September is here, which means kids of all ages across Canada were headed to their first day of school. Oliver and Isabelle were no exception. Oliver must have wondered when he woke up this morning why he was getting out of his pyjamas so early. Up 5 minutes and already dressed, what's going on? Packed with all the necessities, he and his big sister loaded into the van and made the short trip to his new daily home. Isabelle was dropped off with little incident, excited to be spending the day with Logan. It will be great for her brother to have big sis around when he needs her. He toddled down the hall, familiarized himself first with his cubbie and then the playroom, full of cars, lego, toy phones and pop-up games. We discovered that out of 10 kids, he was far from the youngest, there are 4 younger than him! All was going well until he realized we were going to be there for a while, when he became quite clingy and not too interested in playing on his own. He finally donned a smock and checked out the water table, then was even more happy to see the sand table unveiled. He started to warm up to his teacher while still very aware of where his Dad was at all times. Off and on upset, it was time to go outside, which was the perfect antidote for this little guy. At first, he had to be led around by Dad, but once he saw the slides, the cars, the balls and the sandbox, he explored on his own more and more. He loved having the freedom to roam, clearly outdoor time will be his favourite part of every day.
Oliver and Dad headed home before lunch, satisfied that Day 1 ended well and ready for a longer day tomorrow before he takes on a full day later this week. Isabelle was still having fun in the senior room and even visited her old junior room teachers, who missed her immensely. We are so proud of these two, even if we are a bit sad that this means they are growing up!
Isabelle the veteran happily returns to her old stomping grounds. She had a great day and loved all the attention she was getting. Back with her old partner in crime Logan, she even took a nap!?
As always, happy to be outside with his trusty sand shovel.
See, daycare isn't so bad after all! The famous Oliver smile returned as quickly as it went.
