One of the kickoffs of the holiday season in Ottawa is our local junior team's annual Teddy Bear Toss game, a wicked night at the rink and the chance to contribute to a worth cause, making Xmas special for less fortunate kids across Ottawa. When the 67s score their first goal of the night, fans heave their new or gently used stuffed animals onto the ice with gusto. It's quite a sight to see in person, as there is literally hundreds and hundreds of brightly-coloured plush flying over the boards at once. The players, cheerleaders and staff all band together to collect and pack up all the donations. As for the game, the 67s fell behind early but pulled it out in overtime, not that the outcome affected our ability to have fun anyway. But if it helps, Isabelle is a good luck charm, she has never seen the home team lose in 6 trips over the past 2.5 years! As usual, the appearance of ice cream had an even more profound effect on the overall happiness of the group than the scoreboard. This was our 3rd time seeing the teddy bears fly and we will surely be back again next year. As the kids grow, they have more and more fun seeing the big boys take to the ice, plus it helps that we are home within minutes of the game's conclusion! Needless to say, other than some tears shed from Isabelle for a Winnie the Pooh she hasn't actually played with in a year, all of us had an awesome time at the rink. Go 67s Go!
