A Child's Christmas in the Glebe

The Christmas traditions continue with every passing weekend in our neighbourhood. Today started off on the wrong foot with a trip to the local Mayfair Theatre to see the annual free screening of The Polar Express. Isabelle, for some reason, feels the movie is scary and was beside herself 5 minutes into it, so the 4 of us had to abandon ship early. Oliver kept talking about it the whole way to the car so clearly he would be into seeing this over the holidays. We'll see if Isabelle is more amenable if she were seeing it at home. If we turn our sights to the evening agenda, we had way more fun. The Glebe Community Centre's Snowflake Special was on and we were lucky enough to meet up with Logan and Kayla, plus old friends Brooklyn and Kaitlyn too! We got to see some awesome dance routines and displays of martial arts and mini-circus, so the kids were more than well-entertained the whole night, in fact the bigger kids sat amongst themselves and paid no attention to Moms and Dads all night! Oliver was happy to zoom his cars but also wander out on the performance floor once in awhile! He even had enough courage to get his face painted for the first time! It was great to have time to hang out with the other parents and catch up on our busy lives. We have never attended a party at the GCC that has been a disappointment and this was no exception. This event is always a highlight of Christmas-time in our neighbourhood. The season is so festive in and around our house and it has been awesome to have Bank Street and all its shops back open to pedestrian and vehicle traffic. The shop windows and passersby fill your heart with cheer, if only the snow would come and make the holidays complete! Just listen to Isabelle when she sings in Rudolph, "as they shouted out with glebe!"
