Quest for Cool

The sweltering temperatures continue in the nation's capital, mid-30s the daily norm all week long and no respite in sight for the forecasted future! With a house that only possesses an air conditioner in one room, the focus has been on staying cool any way we can.

The kids have had fun re-discovering the toys that hang out in the basement, but have also ventured into the humid outside world to dip their toes and more into kiddie and wading pools, plus run through the sprinkler to their heart's content. Oliver, sporting 3 brand new choppers (including 2 eyeteeth!) will just walk right into the pool, shoes and all, and sit down and start playing, no matter what he's wearing. They both seem to be having fun, even with rosy red faces and sweat pouring down their faces they are always flashing their smiles when we get home.

Nighttime has been a challenge, especially for Isabelle, who has slept surprisingly well with beads of sweat forming on her forehead. Poor little one still pulls her covers over her even though the stifling heat clearly makes them unnecessary! The past few nights we have moved her into our room to cool off and sleep in comfort. Judging by the picture, you can tell who's really the first priority in this house!
