Showtime at the Mayfair

Years from now, as Isabelle and her friends head off to see the latest Suri Cruise movie or perhaps High School Musical 8, we can always look back at today as the day her love affair with the silver screen began. Yes, Isabelle spent the morning at the movies! A local realtor sponsored a screening of The Polar Express at our neighbourhood old-school theatre (the Mayfair, built in 1932), and once we knew that free popcorn was part of the equation, it took little convincing to get her and Logan interested.

We've been reading the book at bedtime all week to get her set for the big event, and it clearly did not disappoint. Her and Logan happily munched away on their (and each other's) popcorn and sat awestruck by the big screen and the stereo sound. It is really something to see someone at their first movie, a treat to just watch them as they watch the movie, all wide-eyed and fingers pointing all the while. Not a single fuss from either one, they were the perfect moviegoers and quieter than most adults who see movies nowadays.

Such a fun experience for them to share and they were happy to get a treat bag and a new book on their way out the door. No doubt this was the first of many movies to come in their future, always with free popcorn courtesy of Mom and Dad!
