Lest We Forget

November 11th is a special day to be in Ottawa. Every year a large crowd gathers around the War Memorial for ceremonies to pay tribute to our fallen soldiers, veterans, and existing members of the Canadian forces. Regardless of whether anyone thinks war is a good idea, it is still a tremendous sacrifice that many people over the years have made to make our country and our lives free and happy. Isabelle was thrilled to be in attendance, clapping for the Veteran's parade, singing O Canada, and visiting the wreaths and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier after the ceremony. Thanks to all that have fought for what we now take for granted every day, most importantly Isabelle's Great Grandpa Jack Marshall, someone she has loved getting to know on her visits to see him in Toronto, and her Great Uncle Roy Scales, the gregarious host of the annual Bradford family picnic. She proudly displays her poppy with both of you in mind. Thank you.

When back downtown later this afternoon, Isabelle decided she wanted to follow the tradition of leaving a poppy on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. She did this several times with poppies that were already there, but as you can see in the pictures, she balked at giving up her own poppy!
