Getting Ready for Renos

Before we shipped off to Florida, we all did a ton of work around the house to get ready for all the work that would be done while we were gone. With the dreaded upstairs bathroom finally on its way out and the aging floors getting a much-needed facelift, there was a lot to do in advance of the worker's arrival (and our departure). All the furniture, actually anything touching the floor, needed to be gone, so it ended up in one of 3 places, sold on Kijiji, stacked in the garage, or piled in the basement. Adding to the complexity of our moving activities was that our babysitter Caitlin was going to use our house as a quiet place to study for the first week we were gone, so it needed to be livable. By the time we left, the new bathroom fixtures awaiting installation were all that remained in upper portion of the house. As frazzled as the parents were over these few weeks, the kids were rolling with it like total pros, not fazed at all!

One of the things we sold was our kitchen table, as we intended to replace it when we returned anyway. Coinciding with its sale was the purchase of all of our bathroom stuff, including a massive box containing our tub. The kids LOVED this box. It served as our makeshift kitchen table for almost two weeks, but more importantly it became their hangout and their art project. They spent hours colouring, climbing, eating, you name it with this thing. As thrilled as we were to be finished with our bathroom by the time we got home, we would be equally sad to say goodbye to one of those unexpected makeshift playthings that makes childhood so fun.

Not sure Kohler ever intended it to be used this way!

Yeah! Renos rock!
